yourrealtygroup We have now seen the second consecutive decline in interest rates, with the Bank of Canada dropping their overnight rate to 4.5% and hinting that more rate drops may be on the way. The cumulative impact of the 0.5% rate drop on mortgages is welcomed, but we hope for further reductions, especially given the rate increases over the past year (see graph). Relief is needed, particularly as mortgages taken out during periods of lower rates come due. For perspective, the overnight rate in July 2022 was 2.5%, which doubled to 5% by July 2023 and remained there until June of this year. Every step helps, and in my opinion, we are not returning to the previous lower rates anytime soon. However, relief is necessary, and every bit helps Canadian consumers. Promoted rates from lenders show offers ranging from the low 5% range for major banks and trusts to the upper 4% range from other lenders. Forecasts and predictions for 2025 are Bank of Canada Rates around 4.25%...we would love to see that just under 4% but will take whatever we can get and the overall impact of rate cuts on the real estate market remains positive with a moderate impact forecast on the market. #rates #interestrates #canada #bankofcanada
